Kwara Now Has Illegitimate LG Chairmen, Councillors – Saraki

Bukola Saraki criticizes Kwara local government elections, calling the results illegitimate after APC wins all positions
Kwara LG Chairmen

Former President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki, has expressed disappointment, stating that it is a shame that the 16 local government (LG) areas in Kwara State now have chairmen and councillors who will be serving without legitimacy and the mandate of the people.

This statement followed the announcement by the Kwara State Independent Electoral Commission (KWSIEC) that declared the candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as winners in the local government elections held in the state.

Kwara Local Government Election Result

Baba Okanla, the chairman of the KWSIEC, announced the results, revealing that the APC had won all 16 local government chairmanship positions and secured all 193 councillorship seats.

In a post shared on his X handle on Wednesday, Saraki argued that the people of Kwara State have clearly signaled their dissatisfaction with the state government, accusing it of failing to make any significant positive impact on their lives after 64 months in office.

Saraki further explained that many citizens had mobilized to participate in the election but encountered the absence of electoral officials and poor arrangements by the electoral body.

He commended the people for standing firm despite what he described as deliberate attempts to frustrate the process.

“Last Saturday, in a manner that transcended partisan interests and demonstrated a commitment to protecting community welfare, the people of Kwara mobilized themselves to the polling units, only to find that electoral officials were absent and the preparations by the electoral body were inadequate.

“Regardless of the results eventually declared by the electoral body, our people have sent a clear message to a government that has failed to make a meaningful positive difference in their lives after 64 months in office. It is truly unfortunate that the 16 local government areas now have chairmen and councillors who will serve without legitimacy or the people’s mandate,” Saraki stated.
