Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has formally welcomed Mojisola Meranda, the newly appointed Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, during a courtesy visit at the State Executive Council Chambers in Alausa, Ikeja. The visit took place on Monday, shortly before the weekly Executive Council meeting.

Governor Sanwo-Olu, alongside his deputy, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, greeted Speaker Meranda and other key House officials in a show of unity between the legislative and executive arms of government. Meranda, who assumed office as Speaker last Monday, succeeded Mudashiru Obasa, who was removed following allegations of financial mismanagement and misconduct.

Speaking during the visit, Sanwo-Olu commended the Speaker and her team for their commitment to ensuring a productive partnership. He emphasized that the synergy between the executive and legislative branches is pivotal to achieving the administration’s “Greater Lagos” vision.

“During the courtesy visit, the Speaker, her principal officers, and members of the Executive Council reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining a harmonious working relationship,” Sanwo-Olu wrote on X.com. “This alignment ensures that Lagos remains a model of excellence in governance. Together, we will work tirelessly to deliver transformational progress across all sectors.”

Meranda, in her first session as Speaker last Friday, initiated significant changes by forming a seven-member Selection Committee and restructuring House leadership. Her leadership promises a new direction for the Lagos Assembly, fostering transparency and efficiency.

With a shared vision of development and progress, the collaboration between Governor Sanwo-Olu’s administration and Speaker Meranda’s leadership marks a renewed focus on delivering policies and projects that benefit the people of Lagos State. This partnership aims to build on past achievements while setting new benchmarks for governance excellence in Nigeria’s commercial capital.
