Nigeria’s Flying Eagles have been placed in Group B alongside Egypt, South Africa, and Morocco for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) U-20 tournament. The draw ceremony took place at the Confederation of African Football (CAF) headquarters on Thursday, 9am News Nigeria.
The Flying Eagles, who were seeded as the group’s top team, will face Egypt in a friendly later this month as part of their preparations. Led by head coach Aliyu Zubairu, the Nigerian team will be looking to improve on their third-place finish from the previous edition.
The 2025 AFCON U-20 tournament will be held in Côte d’Ivoire from Saturday, April 26, to Sunday, May 18. The competition serves as a qualification event for the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile later in the year.

- Group B: Nigeria, Egypt, South Africa, Morocco
- Group C: Senegal (holders), Zambia, Kenya, Sierra Leone
The top two teams from each group, along with the two best third-placed sides, will advance to the quarter-finals. The four semi-finalists will secure their spots at the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile.
The Flying Eagles remain optimistic as they prepare for the tournament, aiming to replicate past successes and solidify their status as one of Africa’s youth football powerhouses.
