In a 9am News report, Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has firmly denied rumors suggesting he is planning to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Taking to his verified Facebook and X (formerly Twitter) accounts, Governor Lawal described the defection claims as baseless and politically motivated. He affirmed his allegiance to the PDP, calling himself a “bona fide member” of the party.

“I am Dauda Lawal, a bona fide member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Disregard the fake news from detractors determined to distract us from the RESCUE MISSION we have embarked on,” the governor stated.

He reiterated his commitment to fulfilling the mandate entrusted to him by the people of Zamfara State, stressing that he remains focused on development goals rather than political speculation.

This clarification comes amid swirling rumors and media reports alleging that the governor was contemplating a switch to the APC, a move that has now been debunked.

Zamfara State, located in Nigeria’s North-West geopolitical zone, has faced political realignments in the past, making Governor Lawal’s response timely and significant in calming rising speculation.

Meanwhile, the Zamfara State Police Command has successfully rescued six kidnapped individuals in a coordinated operation, further reinforcing the state government’s security drive.

According to a statement released on Friday by the command’s spokesperson, DSP Yazid Abubakar, the rescue operation was executed swiftly by a joint team of the police and Community Protection Guard (CPG).

The team, while patrolling the Anka-Gummi Road on April 16, 2025, around 1:45 PM, noticed an abandoned ash-colored Peugeot 206. Suspecting foul play, the operatives immediately launched a search-and-rescue mission which led to the recovery of the kidnapped victims.

The victims were identified as Hon. Bakiru Masama, Dan Masama, Aminu Bukkuyum, Ahmad Masama, Umar Jema, and Shehu Mulluwa. The police confirmed that all six have now been reunited with their families.

The Zamfara State Police Command emphasized its ongoing commitment to restoring peace and ensuring the safety of residents amid persistent security challenges in the region.
