Former Kogi State governor, Yahaya Bello, has honored the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s (EFCC) invitation over allegations of money laundering and corruption amounting to N80.2 billion. After consultations with family, legal team, and political allies, Bello chose to appear before the EFCC, asserting his respect for the rule of law and commitment to clearing his name.

According to a statement by Ohiare Michael, Director of the Yahaya Bello Media Office, the former governor emphasized his belief in due process and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s anti-corruption efforts. Bello highlighted his administration’s commitment to fighting corruption in Kogi State, being the first to implement anti-graft mechanisms in the region.

Facing 19 counts related to money laundering alongside three others, Bello remains confident in proving his innocence. The EFCC Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, has vowed to pursue the case to its conclusion, stating that those obstructing arresting Yahaya Bello will face justice.
