Wike Mocks PDP Governors Over Defection to APC

FCT Minister Nyesom Wike mocks PDP governors who defected to APC, saying they should commend him if he truly worked for the ruling party.

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has mocked governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and some of his political rivals who have recently defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), after previously accusing him of destabilising the PDP by allegedly working for the ruling party.

Wike threw the jab on Wednesday during the flag-off ceremony of the main carriageway construction of the Apo-Wasa-Outer Southern Expressway (OSEX) from Ring Road 1 to Ring Road 2 Junction in Abuja.

“I Should Be Commended” – Wike

In a tone laced with sarcasm, the former Rivers State governor said if claims that he was secretly supporting the APC were true, then he deserved commendation for paving the way for those who now found it convenient to join the ruling party.

He said: “I am very happy and very soon, I will speak to Nigerians. I have been watching on television and social media people who said I wanted to destabilise the party. I’m working for APC – all of them are now in APC.

“This means, if it is true, they should commend me for working for where they are heading to. So, I should be commended for doing a good job for them. I have told people that politics is for matured people. In politics, you have to be very careful and I have told people to know this.”

Promise Fulfilled in FCT

Wike also used the occasion to highlight the ongoing infrastructural developments in the FCT, noting that the construction of the Apo-Wasa road represents another promise fulfilled by President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

According to him, the dualised road project will significantly ease traffic congestion in the area once completed.

“So for us, every promise made by this administration, under the leadership of His Excellency, Mr. President, be assured that we shall fulfill the promises we have made to the people of FCT.

“You will agree with me that this road is very important. Before the Apo to Wassa Junction was done, you could hardly imagine how long it would take to get into the city. It was very horrible, but I thank God we are doing all we can to give the people of FCT the happiness they desire,” he said.
