The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has announced a 95% implementation rate of the 2024 statutory budget, describing the feat as unprecedented in the territory’s fiscal history.

Wike made this known after inspecting several ongoing infrastructure projects across Abuja on Monday. He expressed satisfaction with the scope and quality of projects, assuring residents that every initiative listed in the 2024 budget has been touched.

“I can tell you we’ve done not less than 95 percent of the budget implementation. That is historic. It has never happened before,” the minister said. “And if you look at the projects there, you will see that there is no project that is in the 2024 budget that we have not touched.”

According to Wike, the extension of the 2024 FCT statutory budget by the National Assembly until June 2025 was instrumental in allowing the administration to continue funding critical infrastructure without disruption. He emphasized that timely payments have kept contractors on pace and ensured steady progress.

The minister particularly lauded the near-completion of major capital projects, including the renovation of the Abuja International Conference Centre (AICC), the extension of Obafemi Awolowo Way (N5) from Life Camp Junction to Ring Road III, and the construction of the N16 Interchange at NICON Junction linking Maitama and Katampe Districts to Wole Soyinka Way.

“Frankly speaking, we are very impressed with what we have seen. The quality of the work is commendable, and we are right on schedule,” Wike noted. “The contractors are meeting expectations, and we are fulfilling our obligations by ensuring timely payments to avoid any delays on site.”

Wike revealed that the N16 Interchange will be commissioned by President Bola Tinubu in May as part of the activities marking his second year in office. Additionally, the N5 road project is slated for completion by the end of May.

He also disclosed that the 2025 FCT Statutory Budget has already been submitted to the National Assembly and will be defended once lawmakers return from recess. “This is unprecedented. Every project captured in the 2024 budget has been initiated,” he stressed.

Among other sites visited were the Gishiri village road network in Katampe District and various inner-city infrastructure upgrades designed to ease transportation and link emerging districts with the city centre.

The minister reaffirmed the FCT Administration’s commitment to completing all ongoing projects and ensuring that Abuja remains a model capital for the rest of the country.
