Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has sounded a warning to his teammates ahead of their Champions League round of 16 second-leg tie against Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) on Tuesday. With a one-goal advantage from the first leg, the Dutch defender insists that the Reds must be fully prepared for an intense battle at Anfield.
Van Dijk: “It Will Be Even Tougher”
Speaking to Liverpool’s official website, Van Dijk acknowledged PSG’s quality and stressed the importance of full team and fan support to get over the line.
“We were prepared very well, obviously we could have done better in some ways, but we know that on Tuesday it is going to be as tough, maybe even tougher, because they will have to come and win,” Van Dijk said.
“So it’s down to us to be more than ready for a big night. We need everyone in that sense: all the players, staff, fans.”
He further added that Liverpool must remain focused as PSG boasts world-class talent capable of turning the tie around.
“Hopefully, it will be a great night for us, but it is going to be hard work because they are a world-class team and they showed it against us already.”
Liverpool’s Champions League Hopes on the Line
Liverpool hold a narrow lead from the first leg, but PSG’s attacking firepower, including Kylian Mbappé, Ousmane Dembélé, and Vitinha, makes them a dangerous opponent.
Also, With Anfield’s famous European atmosphere, the Reds will look to capitalize on their home advantage and secure a quarter-final spot. However, Van Dijk’s warning suggests Liverpool must be at their best to withstand PSG’s expected attacking pressure.
Can Liverpool hold firm and progress to the next round?
