UAE Deports 400 Nigerians

Breaking news: 400 Nigerians deported from the UAE amid ongoing diplomatic tensions. Stay updated with developments from 9am news Nigeria.
UAE 400 Nigerians

Breaking news: The Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) has reported that 400 Nigerians, including 90 women and 310 men, have been deported from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and arrived at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja. The deportees were received by the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons, the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), and other stakeholders, according to 9am news Nigeria.

This development follows recent diplomatic tensions between Nigeria and the UAE. Despite a reported settlement in June 2024, where 98% of the $850 million in funds owed to the UAE was paid, and the UAE’s declaration in July that visa restrictions on Nigerians were lifted, the deportation of these 400 Nigerians adds complexity to the ongoing issues.

In July 2024, 190 Nigerians were also repatriated from the UAE. The diplomatic dispute traces back to a visa ban imposed by the UAE and Emirates Airline’s suspension of service to Nigeria over $85 million in unpaid revenue.
