Breaking News: The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on President Bola Tinubu to address the nation amidst the ongoing #Endbadgovernance nationwide protest. The party claims that the president’s silence has exacerbated public agitation. According to 9am News Nigeria, the PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, issued a statement on Saturday urging the president to speak to Nigerians about measures to reduce petroleum product prices, slow the naira’s depreciation, and address other pressing economic issues.

The PDP criticized President Tinubu for not addressing the nation despite the widespread protests. The party emphasized the urgency of communicating steps to reduce fuel prices, stabilize the naira, and ensure the provision of essential goods. The statement expressed concern that the president’s silence is sending a dangerous signal and increasing public apprehension, suggesting that the All Progressives Congress (APC) government is indifferent to the people’s needs and the country’s overall state of affairs.

Press Statement Protest: PDP Flays Tinubu Over Failure to Address Nigerians

Ologunagba stated, “The world is watching in horror as operatives of APC-controlled security agencies assault, shoot, and kill unarmed protesters, with thugs allegedly mobilized by the APC also unleashing violence on innocent Nigerians.” He further called on President Tinubu to immediately address the nation, providing reassurance on crucial issues like reducing the prices of petroleum products and food items.

The PDP insists that with efficient and transparent management of resources, petrol should not sell for more than N200 per liter in Nigeria, especially with strategic investment in gas production. They also called for the recovery of over N50 trillion reportedly stolen by APC leaders, a reduction in tariffs on essential goods, and a cut in the cost of governance. Additionally, the party called for a thorough investigation into the reported killing of unarmed Nigerians by certain security operatives and urged security agencies to maintain professionalism in their duties.

The PDP concluded by urging Nigerians to remain peaceful and law-abiding as they continue to seek a responsive and people-oriented government, which they believe has been absent since the APC came into power in 2015.
