The Ogun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has clarified that its endorsement of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is solely for his 2027 re-election and not for the upcoming Remo Federal Constituency bye-election.
In a statement released Tuesday, PDP Publicity Secretary, Arc. Kayode Adebayo, said some loyalists of Governor Dapo Abiodun were spreading false claims that the PDP also endorsed the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in the August 16 bye-election.
He stressed that the PDP remains fully committed to its own candidate, Asiwaju Bolarinwa Oluwole, and that the endorsement of Tinubu does not mean support for the APC at the constituency level.
Adebayo accused the APC of deliberately twisting the PDP’s campaign message in order to cover up what he described as the governor’s poor record in office. He referenced 2023 election data, claiming Governor Abiodun lost both his polling unit and ward to the PDP, showing signs of reduced support.
He called the link between the PDP’s endorsement of Tinubu and the local bye-election “a political mirage,” urging the APC to focus on credible governance rather than misdirection.
Reaffirming the PDP’s position, Adebayo said no level of propaganda or pressure will stop the people of Remoland from voting for their preferred candidate on August 16. He warned against the use of state power or intimidation and called on Governor Abiodun to allow for a peaceful and fair electoral process.
According to the 9am News report, the PDP insists its focus remains on victory in the bye-election, not partisan distractions.
