On Thursday, President Bola Tinubu met with Edo State’s Governor-elect, Senator Monday Okpebholo, urging him to prioritize the state’s development while assuring full support from the federal government and the Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF). This advice came during a meeting at the State House in Abuja, where Okpebholo and his deputy, Hon. Dennis Idahosa, presented their certificates of return after their election victory.

President Tinubu highlighted the importance of delivering results to the people of Edo and maintaining effective governance. He expressed optimism about Okpebholo’s leadership, stating, “Governor-elect, you can now tackle the task of development. Our goal is to collaborate with you.”

He also acknowledged the challenges of democracy, noting, “Democracy is difficult, especially in emerging economies like Nigeria, but it remains the best form of government.” Tinubu congratulated the incoming governor and his deputy, praising them as symbols of unity and cooperation in politics.

The President commended the role played by former Edo Governor, Senator Adams Oshiomhole, as well as the APC leadership and progressive governors for their efforts during the election. Tinubu expressed satisfaction with the peaceful conduct of the election and thanked INEC and security agencies for ensuring order and safety.

Addressing the party leadership, Tinubu stressed the importance of unity in achieving the Renewed Hope Agenda and dismissed distractions from political “noise makers.”
