Tinubu Highlights Nigeria’s Economic Recovery and Praises Media’s Role in Sustaining Democracy

President Tinubu, at the All Nigerian Editors’ Conference, discusses Nigeria’s economic rebound and reform strategies
Nigeria's economic recovery

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, represented by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, addressed the All Nigerian Editors’ Conference (ANEC) in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, emphasizing Nigeria’s steady economic recovery attributed to his administration’s reform policies.

The president expressed optimism over Nigeria’s shift from a consumption-based to a production-oriented economy, underlining that these reforms had reduced the debt service-to-revenue ratio from nearly 100% to 65% over the past 18 months. This fiscal improvement has increased funds for social services, infrastructure, and investment, benefiting local, state, and federal governments. President Tinubu acknowledged that these reforms have laid a foundation for Nigeria’s prosperity and development.

Other economic milestones cited by the president included the new minimum wage of N70,000, the Nigerian Education Loan Fund benefitting 46,000 students, and a Consumer Credit Scheme that released N100 billion for 500,000 civil servants.

During the event, Tinubu commended the media for its pivotal role in Nigeria’s 25 years of uninterrupted democracy. As a figure involved in Nigeria’s pro-democracy movement, Tinubu stressed that the government and media share a duty to serve the public, highlighting a cooperative relationship over an adversarial one.

“In any thriving democracy, the roles of the government and the media are intertwined,” Tinubu stated. “Together, we can empower citizens, strengthen democratic institutions, and build a more informed and resilient society.”
