Popular Nigerian TikTok creator Habeeb Hamzat, widely known as Peller, has raised concerns over receiving death threats after urging Nigerians to stop participating in the ongoing #30DayRants challenge on TikTok.

The #30DayRants challenge has gained momentum on Nigeria’s social media, with citizens venting their frustrations over the country’s economic and social hardships under President Bola Tinubu’s administration. However, Peller warned that the trend could provoke the Nigerian government to ban TikTok, affecting the income of many content creators.

In a previous video, Peller urged Nigerians to take their grievances elsewhere, saying:

“If you want to really rant, go to Instagram; go to the market; don’t rant here on TikTok. If they ban TikTok, that’s where we will have an issue.”

He further suggested that offline protests would be more effective, stating:

“Let’s protest. Let’s go outside. Let’s leave TikTok. Online something is just mumu mumu.”

His remarks triggered an intense backlash, with many accusing him of prioritizing his personal income over Nigerians’ right to express their frustrations.

Death Threats and Fear for Safety

During a recent livestream, Peller revealed that he had been receiving serious death threats, including threats to shoot him in the same manner that his fellow TikToker, Oloba Salo, was attacked in Lekki, Lagos, last year.

“I have been receiving death threats. Some people threatened to shoot me like they shot Salo in Lekki Phase 1. They asked me to watch my back when going out.”

Overwhelmed by the situation, he abruptly ended his livestream, saying:

“What is all this? I’m not talking again. Goodbye.”

Following the backlash, Peller took to Instagram to clarify his stance, insisting that his comments were misunderstood.

In a caption accompanying a video, he wrote:

“Nigeria, you misunderstand me and Jarvis. Please, you all should try to understand. I am not the president; I am Peller.”

The 19-year-old TikToker further explained:

“Hello Nigerians, I am here to tell you something. You guys misunderstood the video. The live video I made was screen-recorded by someone, and where I said you should go to the market to rant—that is not what I meant.”

Despite his efforts to clear the air, the controversy surrounding Peller’s comments continues to spark debates online, with many Nigerians insisting that the #30DayRants challenge is a form of digital activism and free speech.
