The Super Falcons of Nigeria have arrived at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, after their sensational victory at the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco, where they clinched their 10th continental title.

The champions touched down at exactly 2:26 pm aboard a chartered flight, met with fanfare, music, and cheers from jubilant supporters and top federal government officials.

Among the dignitaries at the airport to welcome the team were the Minister of Information, Mohammed Idris; Minister of Culture and Tourism, Hanatu Musawa; and Minister for Women Affairs, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim.

Open-Top Bus Parade and Presidential Reception

Shortly after landing, the Falcons were scheduled to parade the WAFCON trophy in an open-top bus across the streets of Abuja, a symbolic gesture of national pride. The parade will be followed by a reception at the Presidential Villa, where the team will be formally hosted by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The Nigerian women’s national team has long been a symbol of resilience and excellence in African football, and this latest triumph only deepens that legacy.

In a stunning comeback that captured the hearts of millions, the Falcons defeated host nation Morocco 3–2 in a high-stakes final held in Rabat on Saturday night. Morocco had taken a 2–0 lead at halftime with goals from Ghizlane Chebbak and Fatima Tagnaout Mssoudy.

But the second half saw Nigeria roar back to life.

In the 63rd minute, Jennifer Okoronkwo converted a penalty after a VAR-confirmed handball in the box. Just eight minutes later, she turned provider, setting up Aisha Ijamilusi for the equalizer. The moment of destiny arrived in the 88th minute, when Christy Ucheibe Echegini tucked in a loose ball from a free kick, completing one of the greatest comebacks in WAFCON history.

With this win, Nigeria maintains a perfect record in WAFCON finals 10 wins in 10 appearances, confirming their status as Africa’s most successful women’s national team.

The team’s journey, determination, and ability to overturn a two-goal deficit against the tournament host underscore their elite mindset and tactical depth.

Their return to Nigeria has sparked nationwide celebrations, with fans lauding the players, technical team, and the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) for delivering yet another proud moment in Nigerian sports history.
