Nigeria’s Super Falcons rounded off their preparations for the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) with a commanding 3-1 victory over arch-rivals Ghana in Morocco.

It took the nine-time champions 34 minutes to break the deadlock when Chinwendu Ihezuo found the back of the net to put Nigeria ahead. Ten minutes later, star striker Asisat Oshoala, who plays for Bay FC, doubled the lead from the penalty spot.

Shortly after the restart, Super Falcons captain Rasheedat Ajibade extended the lead to 3-0 in the 50th minute, capping a dominant performance by the West Africans.

Ghana pulled one back in the 88th minute, but it proved only a consolation as Nigeria held firm to secure victory in their final friendly before the continental showpiece.

A post shared on the official Super Falcons X handle read: “FULL-TIME | Ghana 1-3 Nigeria. A commanding display from the Super Falcons in our final pre-WAFCON 2025 friendly! Solid performance. Eyes on WAFCON!”

The match in Morocco follows a goalless draw against Portugal last Monday, giving the team a morale boost ahead of the tournament’s kick-off.

Nigeria will begin their WAFCON campaign in Group B, alongside Tunisia, Botswana, and Algeria. The Super Falcons will face Tunisia in their opener on Sunday, July 5, 2025.

With nine WAFCON titles to their name, the team is eyeing a record-extending 10th crown this year.

“We are ready to fight for the trophy again. The performance today shows the team spirit is high,” said a team official after the match, speaking to 9am News report.
