The Nigerian Senate has formally announced the defection of Senator Ned Nwoko, representing Delta North, from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). His resignation from the PDP follows increasing instability and internal crises, which he believes threaten his political career.

The announcement, made by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, was met with enthusiastic applause as Nwoko was escorted to the majority wing of the Upper Chamber.

In his letter to the Senate, Nwoko also urged the establishment of an ad hoc committee to investigate the PDP’s internal crisis, stressing the importance of a strong opposition for Nigeria’s democracy.

Ned Nwoko defection marks a significant shift in the political landscape, further strengthening the APC ahead of the 2027 elections.
