The Nigerian Senate is set to begin screening seven new ministerial nominees appointed by President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday next week. Senate President Godswill Akpabio read President Tinubu’s request for the Senate to consider and confirm the appointments on Thursday.
The nominated individuals include:
- Dr. Nentawe Yilwatda (Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction)
- Muhammadu Dingyadi (Minister of Labour & Employment)
- Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu (Minister of State for Foreign Affairs)
- Dr. Jumoke Oduwole (Minister of Industry, Trade, and Investment)
- Idi Mukhtar Maiha (Minister of Livestock Development)
- Yusuf Ata (Minister of State, Housing and Urban Development)
- Dr. Suwaiba Ahmad (Minister of State Education)
Senate President Akpabio referred the ministerial nominees to the Committee of the Whole for thorough screening, urging the Red Chamber to prioritize the President’s request.
Accelerated Screening Expected
According to a Senate principal who spoke to THISDAY on condition of anonymity, the upper chamber might begin the screening as early as Tuesday if all required documentation is received. This accelerated process could allow the Senate to conclude by Wednesday.
