In breaking news, Randy Waldrum, the head coach of Nigeria’s senior female team, the Super Falcons, has officially resigned from his position. Ogasabi, reporting on 9am news Nigeria, shared that Waldrum’s decision was influenced by personal reasons, primarily related to his wife’s health challenges. The American strategist, who took charge of the nine-time African champions on October 5, 2020, expressed his deep regret for stepping down after four eventful years.

Randy Waldrum, 67, announced his resignation in a heartfelt letter, citing his wife’s illness as the reason for his decision. “Following the Olympics, my wife’s health difficulties and the concerns that naturally come with them have made these past few weeks very challenging,” he wrote. “After much thought, I am resigning from my role as head coach of the Super Falcons to allow the NFF ample time to find the next manager to take over this incredible squad.”

As reported by Ogasabi on 9am news, during his tenure, Waldrum successfully led the Super Falcons to the 2023 World Cup, where they reached the Round of 16 but were eliminated by England in a tense penalty shootout. Additionally, he broke a 16-year drought by securing the team’s qualification for the 2024 Olympic Games.

Furthermore, With Waldrum’s departure, the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) now has the opportunity to appoint a new coach ahead of the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), which is set to take place in Morocco from July 5 to July 26, 2025.
