Quadri Aruna has once again proven his dominance in African table tennis, reclaiming his spot as the continent’s highest-ranked player. The Nigerian table tennis star surged to 18th place in the latest Week 12 ITTF rankings, surpassing Egypt’s Omar Medhat Assar, who dropped to 19th.

Despite finishing as a runner-up at the 2025 ITTF Africa Cup, Aruna’s consistent performance in World Table Tennis (WTT) tournaments has solidified his position on the global stage. Known for his resilience and unique playing style, Aruna remains the only African male player to reach the semi-finals of the WTT Contender Doha, a feat he first achieved in 2023 and repeated earlier this year.

Quadri Aruna’s journey this year has been marked by strong performances in international competitions. His ability to compete and excel against top-ranked players has not only earned him recognition but also reinforced his status as Africa’s table tennis king.

Interestingly, while Omar Medhat Assar claimed the Africa Cup title, his ranking slipped from 17th to 19th, while Aruna moved up from 19th to 18th. Denmark’s Jonathan Groth climbed to 17th, creating a shuffle in the rankings that favored the Nigerian star.

A Family of Champions

Aruna’s family has also been making waves in the table tennis world. Earlier this year, his children Mariam, Quadri Junior, and Amira achieved podium finishes at the VIX João Monteiro Table Tennis Tournament in Portugal. While their father competed at the WTT Contender Doha, his children showcased their talent, continuing the family’s impressive legacy in the sport.

As Quadri Aruna reclaims his spot at the top of African table tennis, fans and supporters eagerly anticipate his next move on the international stage. With his remarkable track record, Aruna is not just a symbol of excellence for Nigeria but also a significant figure for the entire continent..
