President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has arrived in Accra, Ghana, to attend the inauguration ceremony of the newly elected President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama. The event, scheduled for today, will also mark the swearing-in of Vice President-elect Professor Naana Opoku-Agyemang.
President Tinubu departed Nigeria from the Presidential wing of the Murtala Mohammed International Airport in Lagos at approximately 4:20 PM local time. Upon arrival at the Kotoka International Airport in Accra at about 4:05 PM Ghanaian time, he was warmly received by Hon. Julius Debra, the Chief of Staff to the President of Ghana.
As the Chairman of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), Tinubu will join other African leaders to witness this significant occasion. His presence underscores the strong bilateral relations between Nigeria and Ghana, as well as his personal connection with President Mahama, who visited Nigeria earlier in December 2024.
Accompanying President Tinubu on this trip are Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Mrs. Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and other senior Nigerian government officials.
The inauguration symbolizes a continued commitment to regional cooperation and democracy within West Africa. It is expected to further strengthen the ties between the two nations while fostering collaboration on regional issues of mutual interest.
