D’Tigress secured their place in the final after a hard-fought 75–68 victory over Senegal in Saturday’s semifinal clash. The win not only guaranteed a shot at the championship but also confirmed Nigeria’s qualification for the 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup Qualifying Tournaments.

As the team eyes a record fifth consecutive AfroBasket title, they are set to face Mali in the final today, Sunday, at 7:00 PM Nigerian time.

Coach Rena Wakama Receives Presidential Commendation

President Tinubu also gave special recognition to Coach Rena Wakama, Nigeria’s first-ever female head coach to guide the team to a continental final.

“Coach Rena Wakama’s dedication and competence have brought this team to the cusp of history. The entire nation stands firmly behind you,” the President stated.

Wakama’s leadership has drawn widespread acclaim, especially as she now stands on the brink of leading D’Tigress to an unprecedented fifth title in a row—cementing their dominance in African women’s basketball.

The President’s endorsement reflects the growing national pride in the team’s achievements. D’Tigress’ relentless pursuit of excellence has resonated with millions of Nigerians and sports fans around the world, making them not only champions on the court but also powerful ambassadors of unity and strength.

All eyes will be on the final tonight, as Nigeria hopes to make history once again.
