Portable Denies Olamide’s Role in His Fame, Sparks Social Media Debate

Portable claims he was already famous before Olamide's feature on Zazu Zeh. His controversial statements stir reactions on social media.

“Is it Olamide that posted me and got me famous? He’s my helper, yes, but I was already famous before he helped me,” Portable stated, adding that people were already eager to collaborate with him at the time.

He questioned Olamide’s continued support, saying, “Since that time Olamide helped me, has he ever posted me on his story? I thank God for what he did, but it’s not like he’s the reason I’ve been surviving all this while.”

Portable also acknowledged other contributors to his career, including social media influencer Tunde Ednut and British-Nigerian rapper Skepta, while calling out industry insiders he accused of blacklisting him.

“Don’t tell me rubbish. I helped myself! What about Skepta, who collaborated with me? Tunde Ednut posted my freestyle; people were already looking for me before Olamide,” he said.

The singer’s claims have sparked a flurry of reactions on social media, with many users criticizing him for appearing ungrateful to Olamide. Others have defended his right to express his perspective on his career trajectory.

Portable, known for his unapologetically brash persona, ended his rant by asserting his independence in the music industry. “I’m a superstar. If you don’t see me, I don’t see you!”

As the debate rages on, Portable’s statements have reignited discussions about gratitude, collaboration, and recognition in the Nigerian music industry.
