Police Didn’t Fire Live Ammunition During #EndBadGovernance Protests – IGP

The IGP denied the allegations that security personnel used live ammunition or excessive force during the #EndBadGovernance protests.
#EndBadGovernance protests

Ogasabi on 9am news Nigeria reported the latest Breaking news regarding the ongoing #EndBadGovernance protests. The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, addressed concerns about the police, military, and other security forces allegedly using excessive force. He firmly denied these allegations during a meeting with security agency leaders in Abuja on Tuesday. According to Egbetokun, security personnel did not use live ammunition or excessive force during the protests.

In his statement, Egbetokun clarified that while there had been attacks on security agents, neither the police nor the military retaliated with live ammunition. He emphasized, “The police and the military, indeed no other security agency involved in managing this protest, has deployed excessive force. Instead, what we had were attacks on security agents during the protest. From our record, there were no shooting incidents by the police.” This clarification, covered by 9am news Nigeria, aims to address public concerns over the conduct of security forces.

Furthermore, Egbetokun dismissed reports of excessive force as “fake news and very wrong allegations.” He explained that during the protests, the police had refrained from using water cannons and rubber bullets, relying solely on teargas to manage the crowds. They made this decision to avoid unnecessary escalation and ensure public safety.

In addition to addressing the protests, the IGP also noted that the police were not overwhelmed during the demonstrations. He stated that standby units were ready but not deployed, allowing them to maintain control without overextending resources. Egbetokun highlighted that, despite the #EndBadGovernance protests, the police continued to focus on other criminal activities, successfully arresting individuals involved in armed robbery and other offenses.

Using Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC)

Egbetokun clarified the situation about the incident in Kaduna, dispelling rumors that an Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) was hijacked. He explained that the APC wasn’t deployed for the protest; instead, it was stationed at the Kaduna Government House. Protesters merely approached the vehicle, and the driver returned it to the Government House gate, ensuring it was not an actual hijacking.

The Breaking news updates from Ogasabi on 9am news Nigeria emphasize the police’s commitment to managing the protests with restraint and ensuring the safety of all citizens. As the situation unfolds, the police continue to focus on maintaining order while addressing public concerns.
