The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced the postponement of its South-South Zonal Congress, originally scheduled for Saturday, February 22, 2025.

This was disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday night by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba.

“The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) @OfficialPDPNig has approved the postponement of the South-South Zonal Congress of our great party, earlier scheduled to hold on Saturday, February 22, 2025,” the statement read.

While confirming the postponement, the NWC assured that the South-East and North-East Zonal Congresses would proceed as planned on the same date at their respective zonal headquarters in Enugu and Bauchi states.

Reason for Postponement

The PDP cited the need for “further consultation on critical issues” as the reason for delaying the South-South congress. However, the party did not disclose specific details about the concerns requiring further discussion.

The party expressed regret for any inconvenience caused by the change and assured stakeholders that a new date for the South-South congress would be announced in due course.

“All aspirants, critical stakeholders, leaders, and members of our party; the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and security agencies should note the postponement of the South-South Zonal Congress and the conduct of the South-East and North-East Zonal Congresses on Saturday, February 22, 2025, and be guided accordingly,” the statement concluded.

The postponement comes amid ongoing political realignments within the PDP as the party prepares for future elections.
