The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released fresh statistics on the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR), showing that Osun, Lagos, and Ogun states are topping the list of new registrants ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to the latest figures, Osun recorded the highest number with 393,269 registrations, representing 28.51% of the total. Lagos followed with 222,205 (16.11%), while Ogun registered 132,823 (9.63%). The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) also made the top list with 107,682 registrations (7.81%).
At the bottom of the table were four South East states. Ebonyi recorded just 261 registrants (0.02%), Imo 481 (0.03%), and Enugu 484 (0.04%), while Abia led the zone with 772 registrations (0.06%).
A breakdown by geopolitical zones revealed that the South West led with 848,359 registrants, followed by the North Central and FCT with 250,218. The North West recorded 141,349, the North East 77,653, the South South 59,676, while the South East lagged behind with only 1,998.
INEC also disclosed that 27,089 persons with disabilities completed online registration during the period.
In a statement, Sam Olumekun, National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, confirmed that a total of 1,379,342 Nigerians registered nationwide within just one week of the online pre-registration exercise.
The statement read:
“The nationwide online pre-registration of voters commenced on Monday, 18th August 2025. As at Sunday, 24th August 2025, a total of 1,379,342 Nigerians registered nationwide in just one week. The Commission is glad to publish the first weekly update of the exercise, providing details of the registration by state, gender, age, occupation, and disability.
“The breakdown shows that 661,846 (47.96%) are male and 717,856 (52.04%) are female. Young people between 18 and 34 years constitute the majority, with 860,286 (62.37%). In terms of occupation, students account for 374,534 (27.15%), while persons with disabilities make up 27,089 (1.96%). Full details have been published on the Commission’s website and other official platforms for public information.”
