Ogasabi on 9am news reports that a significant shift is occurring in Ondo State’s political landscape as a group of All Progressives Congress (APC) members defected to the Social Democratic Party (SDP) ahead of the November 16 governorship election. At a rally held at the SDP office in Akure, the defectors ceremoniously dropped their APC membership cards and picked up new SDP membership cards, signaling their allegiance to the party.
The former APC members, led by Femi Ikoyi, voiced their dissatisfaction with how they were treated within the APC. Ikoyi emphasized the influence of the People’s Democratic Movement (PDM) within the Ondo APC, stating that the group was instrumental in their decision to leave. He further noted that more APC and PDP members are considering a switch to the SDP to back their governorship candidate, Otunba Bamidele Akingboye. “I’m bringing my PDM people in APC to SDP. We know the SDP candidate is the favorite of Abuja. We aim to win the election. What the APC is further doing to us at the local level is not encouraging. This is why we are moving to SDP. I am here to deliver Akingboye,” Ikoyi declared.
Furthermore, Gbenga Akinbunmi, the Chairman of Ondo SDP, welcomed the defectors, assuring them of equal treatment within the party. The state SDP governorship candidate also commended the defectors for their decision to join the party and promised an inclusive administration if elected.
