Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike has reiterated his unwavering support for President Bola Tinubu during the 2023 general elections, stating he has no regrets for his decision.
Before his appointment as FCT Minister under the All Progressives Congress (APC) administration, Wike served as the Governor of Rivers State for eight years on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) platform. Speaking during a thanksgiving service in Ochigba organized by the PDP in Ahoada East and West Local Government Areas, Wike expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for entrusting him with the FCT Ministerial role.
“I have no regrets, I have no apologies. If the opportunity comes, I will do the same thing,” Wike declared, acknowledging the threats he faced for backing Tinubu during the presidential elections.
Dismisses Land Grabbing Allegations
Addressing recent accusations of land grabbing in the Federal Capital Territory, Wike described the claims as baseless and unfounded. He emphasized his commitment to ensuring that all landholders in Abuja comply with government regulations or risk losing their plots.
“I am in charge of lands in Abuja; how will I go and grab what I am in charge of?” Wike asked, dismissing the allegations as laughable.
The minister stressed the importance of doing the right thing and following due process, irrespective of opposition or criticism. “No matter the cry you cry, no matter the propaganda you carry, if you like, give me any name you want to give me, the right thing must be done,” he stated.
Wike also highlighted the challenges of managing the FCT, noting that the experience has been an eye-opener compared to his tenure in Rivers State. He expressed appreciation to President Tinubu for giving him the opportunity to serve at a national level.
With a firm stance on adherence to due process, Wike appears resolute in his approach to governance, irrespective of criticism or controversy.
