Some factional members of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) have publicly disowned Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso as the party leader and starting an anti-Kwankwasiya campaign. This development marks an intensifying internal struggle within the party.
At the forefront of this anti-Kwankwasiya campaign is the factional National Chairman, Dr. Gilbert Agbo, who led the charge at the NNPP secretariat in Minna, Niger State. Agbo stated that Kwankwaso and his Kwankwasiya group have become threats to the progress and future of the party. He emphasized that Kwankwaso’s suspension by the National Working Committee (NWC) in Lagos effectively terminated his membership and influence within the party.
To symbolize their disassociation from Kwankwaso’s faction, Agbo supervised the burning of the iconic Kwankwasiya red caps at the state secretariat. This act, he said, was a clear statement of their stance against Kwankwaso’s continued leadership within the NNPP.
Also, Dr. Agbo revealed that the party’s disciplinary committee will summon Governor Kabir Yusuf of Kano State for failing to adhere to the party’s principles and respect its supremacy.
However, in reaction to this development, Mallam Danladi Umar Abdulhamid, leader of the Kwankwasiya Movement in Niger State, dismissed Dr. Agbo’s factional leadership as illegal. He described Agbo’s actions as self-serving, asserting that the national leadership of the party under Dr. Ahmed Ajuji still recognizes Kwankwaso as the rightful national leader.
Furthermore, the internal conflict in the NNPP underscores a deepening rift within the party as members take sides on its leadership direction, leaving the future of the Kwankwasiya faction and its influence in Nigerian politics uncertain.
