Nigeria’s Ashe And Ajayi Crash Out Of Men’s 100m At Paris Olympics

At the ongoing Paris 2024 Olympic Games, Ogasabi on 9am News Nigeria reported that Kanyinsola Ajayi and Favour Ashe did not advance to the Men’s 100m final after failing to secure top spots in their respective semifinal heats. In Heat 1, Jamaica’s Oblique Seville won, while Noah Lyles placed second with a time of 9.835 seconds, securing a spot in the final. Unfortunately, Nigeria’s Favour Ashe finished sixth with a time of 10.08 seconds. In Heat 2, Kanyinsola Ajayi also finished sixth with a time of 10.13 seconds. Breaking news from 9am News Nigeria highlighted that Letsile Tebogo of Botswana and Akani Simbine of South Africa secured the automatic qualification slots.

Ajayi had previously shocked everyone by winning Heat 5 of the Men’s 100m, finishing in 10.02 seconds (-0.3) and upsetting Olympic champion Lamont Marcell Jacobs of Italy, who finished second with a time of 10.05 seconds while Ashe, on the other hand, narrowly missed an automatic qualification slot but qualified favorably for the semifinal heat with a time of 10.16 seconds, which was slower than his personal best of 9.96 seconds.

Meanwhile, Tobi Amusan, the current world record holder in the women’s 100-meter hurdles, will begin her medal chase at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. The 26-year-old, who set a world record of 12.12 seconds at the World Athletics Championship semifinals in 2022, is one of the favorites in her third Olympics. Amusan is set to compete in the Women’s 100mH preliminary round on Wednesday, August 7.
