Nigeria Sympathizes with South Korea Over Jeju Air Crash

The Federal Government of Nigeria has expressed deep sympathy with the government and people of South Korea following the tragic crash of Jeju Air Flight 2216. The disaster claimed the lives of 179 passengers, leaving only two survivors.

In a statement issued on Sunday, December 29, 2024, by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson, Kimiebi Ebienfa, Nigeria extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and reaffirmed solidarity with South Korea during this difficult time.

The Jeju Air crash occurred at Muan International Airport in southern South Korea when the Boeing 737-800, returning from Bangkok, Thailand, skidded off the runway during landing and collided with a wall. The resulting explosion left 179 of the 181 passengers and crew on board dead.

The Nigerian government described the incident as a tragic loss, emphasizing the shared grief of the global community in times of such catastrophic events.

“The Federal Republic of Nigeria wishes to express her sincere condolences to the Government and People of the Republic of Korea for the unfortunate crash of Jeju Air Flight 2216 that occurred on Sunday, December 29th, 2024.

“The Federal Government of Nigeria sympathises with the Government of South Korea and the families of the victims of the deadly plane crash,” the statement read.

This message of support underscores Nigeria’s commitment to standing with South Korea in mourning the loss of lives and honoring the resilience of the survivors.
