Netflix Announces Release Date For Yoruba Epic-Movie “Lisabi”

Netflix has officially announced that “Lisabi: The Uprising” will debut on September 27, 2024, followed by its sequel, “Lisabi: A Legend is Born,” in January 2025. This highly anticipated Yoruba-language film is set to captivate audiences, further expanding Netflix’s epic storytelling in Nigerian cinema.

In an exciting reveal, behind-the-scenes pictures of Adedimeji Lateef’s upcoming movie, “Lisabi,” have been released, giving fans a glimpse of the film that tells the adventures of the legendary Egba Warrior farmer.

Ogasabi on 9am news reports that Lisabi, a powerful figure from Igbehin, originally hailing from the Egba village of Itoku, is celebrated for leading the Egba people in their fight for freedom from the oppressive Alaafin of Oyo.

The movie is set in the 18th-century Oyo Empire and chronicles how an Egba farmer sparked a rebellion against the Oyo Empire, using the collective strength of his fellow farmers and mysterious abilities.

Furthermore, This historic tale showcases Lisabi’s defiance, which ultimately led to the defeat of over 6,000 Oyo soldiers, securing Egba’s independence after centuries of subjugation.

The film, executive produced by Adedimeji Lateef and directed by Niyi Akinmolayan, boasts a star-studded cast including Femi Adebayo Salami, Odunlade Adekola, Ibrahim Itele Yekini, and others.

As reported by Breaking news on 9am news Nigeria, “Lisabi: The Uprising” is poised to be a significant addition to Netflix’s Yoruba-language lineup, joining other titles like Femi Adebayo’s “Jagun Jagun” and Kunle Afolayan’s “Anikulapo: The Rise of The Spectre.”
