In breaking news, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has alerted the people of Rivers State about an impending flood expected to hit within the next four weeks. Speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Port Harcourt, Mr. Adebiyi Razak, the South-South Zonal Coordinator of NEMA, shared that the agency has already begun efforts to help residents prepare for the flood’s impact as the region braces for intensified rainfall. Ogasabi reports for 9am news Nigeria that the areas most at risk include Ahoada West, Ahoada East, Andoni, Ndoni, Obio/Akpor, Oyigbo, and Tai.

Razak emphasized that NEMA is working closely with local authorities, including the Rivers State Emergency Management Agency and local councils, to mitigate the potential damage. He urged residents to start moving to higher ground and prepare for possible evacuations. Ogasabi highlights on 9am news that temporary shelters have been identified, including schools and churches, where people can seek refuge during the floods.

Additionally, NEMA has begun stockpiling essential supplies to assist affected communities. Razak also noted that flash floods have already hit Tai Local Government Area, where Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps have been set up. This proactive approach aims to minimize the damage from the anticipated floodwaters, expected due to heavy rains in the North draining into the South-South region.
