Senator Ali Ndume, representing Borno South, has declined to chair the committee on tourism. According to 9am news, Ndume lost his position as Senate Chief Whip due to his remarks criticizing President Bola Tinubu’s administration. “I’m not interested in accepting the committee on tourism for the two reasons I told you,” Ndume said in his Maiduguri hometown, 48 hours after being sacked as chief whip.

Ndume explained, “I’m inexperienced in that. I don’t know anything about tourism. So, I would prefer to remain as an ordinary member to learn about tourism.” He also defended his comments, stating there was nothing wrong with them. “I stand by all my statements in the interview I granted,” the senator insisted.

According to Ogasabi from 9am news Nigeria, Ndume emphasized, “I know I’m not wrong. The people are not wrong by speaking the truth and standing by the truth.” He urged President Tinubu to address the suffering of the people.

There were calls for Ndume’s resignation from the All Progressives Congress (APC) after his dismissal. However, Ndume stated that discussions are necessary before deciding to leave the APC. “I didn’t join APC just like that. It was in consultation with my people that I joined APC. I will consult with them,” the lawmaker said, as highlighted in 9am news Nigeria.
