Popular comedian and actor Debo Adedayo, widely known as Mr Macaroni, has stepped into the role of a police officer in the critically acclaimed film Freedom Way.
The movie, written and produced by Blessing Uzzi under Bluhouse Studios, also marks the directorial feature debut of filmmaker Olalekan Afolabi.
Freedom Way tackles deep-rooted social issues, exploring how inconsistent policies and systemic failures affect young Nigerians striving to build better lives. At its heart, the film sheds light on police injustice, broken systems, and the ripple effects of actions and inactions within society.
Speaking about his role, Mr Macaroni described Freedom Way as a story that hits home for Nigerian audiences.
“What was most endearing was the way we all connect, and the way every action and inaction affects the next person. I want people to feel and understand there should be consequences for their actions,” he said.
The film’s impressive cast includes Femi Jacobs, Bimbo Akintola, Ogranya Jable Osai, Meg Otanwa, Mike Afolarin, Jesse Suntele, Taye Arimoro, Akin Lewis, Teniola Aladese, and Tiwalola Adebola-Walter.
Freedom Way received wide recognition at the recent Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA), winning Best Film and Best Writing for Uzzi. It also earned nominations for Best Sound Design, Best Music, and Best Supporting Actor for Femi Jacobs.
Since its founding in 2021, Bluhouse Studios has built a reputation for bold, high-impact visual storytelling. Apart from films, the studio has produced music videos for top artistes like Davido, Cobhams, Broda Shaggi, Zlatan, Chike, and Waje, and has collaborated with big brands like 1xBet, Bet9ja, Infinix, Tecno, and Bigi.
Uzzi described the film’s local release as “surreal.”
“It feels really good, surreal, for Freedom Way to finally be screened in Nigerian cinemas. I’m excited to see how people receive it here, where it matters most,” he said.
Director Olalekan Afolabi hopes the film sparks dialogue:
“It’s an important story. I want it to inspire conversations. If it does that, then we’ve done our job.”
Freedom Way is now showing in cinemas nationwide.
