Renowned gospel singer Mercy Chinwo has filed a legal suit against her former manager, Ezekiel Onyedikachukwu, over the alleged diversion of $345,000 in music royalties. The Nigerian Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) filed a motion to ensure Onyedikachukwu’s court appearance after multiple failed attempts to apprehend him. On Thursday, Justice Alexander Owoeye of the Lagos State Federal High Court issued an arrest warrant, mandating Onyedikachukwu’s arraignment on January 24, 2025.
The EFCC disclosed in an affidavit supporting the motion that Mercy Chinwo lodged a formal petition against her former manager, citing discrepancies in royalty payments and financial mismanagement.
Mercy Chinwo signed with EeZee Conceptz, a record label owned by Onyedikachukwu, in 2017. The partnership flourished after Chinwo won the second edition of Nigerian Idol, propelling her to stardom with hit gospel tracks that garnered widespread acclaim.
However, their relationship reportedly soured in September 2022, leading to Chinwo’s exit from the label amid allegations of financial disagreements.
