Award-winning Nigerian gospel singer Mercy Chinwo has taken legal action against controversial social media influencer Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), over allegations of defamation. The lawsuit follows claims by VDM that Chinwo diverted $345,000 linked to her former record label, EeZee Conceptz, owned by Ezekiel Onyedikachukwu, also known as EeZee Tee.
Mercy Chinwo filed the lawsuit through her legal representative, Pelumi Olajengbesi, barely a month after VDM accused her of failing to remit funds from shows to her former label.
In his social media posts, VDM alleged that Mercy Chinwo withheld payments meant for EeZee Tee following their split. However, the singer’s legal team has described the allegations as “libelous, malicious, spiteful, and grossly defamatory”, arguing that the content creator falsely misrepresented the dispute between Chinwo and her former label.

The lawsuit demands that VDM delete his posts, issue a public apology, and retract his statements across his social media platforms. As part of the legal action, Mercy Chinwo’s team has submitted supporting documents, including emails, payment receipts, and other proof to disprove the allegations.
According to Olajengbesi, the accusations made by VDM impugned the singer’s image and character, portraying her in a negative light without any substantial evidence.
EeZee Tee’s Ongoing Legal Battle
The defamation lawsuit adds another layer to the ongoing legal battle involving EeZee Tee. On February 17, 2025, a Federal High Court in Lagos upheld an arrest warrant against EeZee Tee over allegations of fraudulent conversion of funds. The court adjourned the case to March 6, 2025, for the record label owner’s formal arraignment.
Despite VDM’s claims, Mercy Chinwo’s legal team insists that the gospel singer has no involvement in the alleged financial misconduct, accusing the social media influencer of meddling in a matter that does not concern him.
Social Media Drama
VDM has gained notoriety for his controversial takes on celebrity affairs, often sparking heated debates online. However, his recent comments against Mercy Chinwo have triggered widespread backlash, with many social media users questioning his motives.
Meanwhile, Mercy Chinwo has remained largely silent on the issue, choosing to address the allegations through legal channels.
The legal action signals Mercy Chinwo’s determination to protect her reputation against false and damaging allegations. As the case unfolds, both the defamation lawsuit and EeZee Tee’s ongoing legal troubles will continue to generate interest among fans and the Nigerian entertainment industry.
