Ogasabi on 9am news reports that the Edo State chapter of the Labour Party (LP) has strongly refuted claims circulating online that it has received N1.6 billion from the Presidency and is forming an alliance with the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the upcoming September 21 governorship race. The Labour Party’s Publicity Secretary in Edo, Sam Uruopa, issued a statement on Thursday, dismissing these allegations as a desperate attempt to divert attention from their candidate, Olumide Akpata.

Breaking news on 9am news Nigeria highlights that Uruopa described the report, allegedly spread by a Vincent Osaghae on various online platforms starting August 20, 2024, as baseless and malicious. The report falsely claimed a secret agreement between Akpata and the APC. “The idea that Akpata and the APC have a covert relationship is entirely untrue,” Uruopa asserted, emphasizing that Akpata has remained steadfast in his commitment to the principles of the Labour Party.

9am news also pointed out that Uruopa vehemently denied any financial support from the Presidency or the APC, stating, “Akpata’s campaign is self-funded and supported by dedicated party members.” He further stressed that the Edo Labour Party (LP) would never consider an alliance with the APC or the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), as these parties represent what he described as “darkness in Nigeria and Edo State.”

Furthermore, 9am news Nigeria reports that Uruopa refuted the notion of any late-night meetings between Akpata and APC officials, noting that Akpata has been actively engaging with the people of Edo during his ward-to-ward campaign, outlining his vision for the state’s future. He assured the public that the Labour Party (LP) campaign finances are transparent and accountable, and no such funds have been received from the APC or the Presidency.

In his closing remarks, Uruopa called on Labour Party members, the Obidient family, and the general public to ignore these “malicious allegations” and focus on the real issues at hand. He reaffirmed Akpata’s commitment to delivering a better Edo State for all and urged supporters not to be distracted by baseless rumors and smear campaigns. “With Akpata and Kadiri, Edo will be Ok,” he concluded.
