Liverpool manager Arne Slot has declared that the club will fully support Mohamed Salah in his pursuit of the 2025 Ballon d’Or. The Dutch tactician made this statement ahead of Liverpool’s Premier League clash against Newcastle United, emphasizing that individual success in football is often tied to team achievements.
Speaking about Salah’s chances, Slot acknowledged that while winning major trophies like the Premier League or Champions League strengthens a player’s Ballon d’Or claim, exceptional individual performances also play a crucial role.
“It would make his chance only bigger, but the last one who won it (Rodri) only won the league and not the Champions League. It is not only about the amount of prizes you win, but I think all of the ones that won it in the past probably won either the league or the Champions League,” Slot explained.
Slot praised Salah’s work ethic and performances, particularly in big matches, citing his recent impact in Liverpool’s win against Manchester City.
“In football, it’s always like this: you need the team to win an individual prize, and that’s what Mo understands really well. His work rate, especially in the second half, was very good and very helpful for us to win the game against City,” Slot added.
The Liverpool boss believes that as long as Salah maintains his current form, he will remain a strong contender for football’s most prestigious individual award.
“It’s a good thing that Mo is in the discussion because it means he does well, and it means we are doing well. But for him to stay in that discussion, he should bring in the same performances as he’s done for seven or eight months now,” Slot said.
Can Salah Win the 2025 Ballon d’Or?
Salah has been one of Liverpool’s standout performers, consistently delivering top-level performances across all competitions. However, his Ballon d’Or chances may depend on Liverpool’s success in securing major silverware this season.
With Slot backing Salah and Liverpool in strong form, the Egyptian forward could be in serious contention for the 2025 Ballon d’Or, potentially becoming the first African player to win the award since George Weah in 1995.
