The Julius Abure-led faction of the Labour Party (LP) has established a disciplinary committee to investigate allegations of anti-party activities against Abia State Governor Alex Otti and several other members. This was disclosed on Friday after the party’s National Executive Council (NEC) meeting in Abuja.

Addressing journalists, the NEC stated:
“NEC reviewed the anti-party activities of Alex Otti, the Abia State Governor, and other errant members and consequently set up a disciplinary committee.”

The five-member committee, chaired by Dr. Ayo Olorunfemi, has been given two weeks to submit its findings. Other members include Alhaji Umar Farouk Ibrahim (Secretary), Barr. Kehinde Edun, Mrs. Dudu Manuga, and Barr. Callistus Ihejiagwa.

The NEC also applauded the recent Supreme Court ruling, which it said has settled disputes regarding the party’s leadership, reaffirming Julius Abure as National Chairman. It emphasized that the LP will not participate in any coalition or merger heading into the 2027 general elections, focusing instead on strengthening the party’s structure and membership.

Key Resolutions from the NEC Meeting:

  • Ratification of the 2024 National Convention, held in Nnewi, and confirmation of all delegate lists and decisions made.
  • Reaffirmed confidence in the National Working Committee (NWC) led by Barr. Julius Abure.
  • Extended an olive branch to aggrieved members to return to the fold for the party’s unity and progress.
  • Declared support for Chief George Moghalu as LP’s candidate for the 2025 Anambra Governorship Election and called on Ndi Anambra to back his bid.
  • Stated unequivocally that the party remains committed to its independence and will steer clear of any pre-2027 election coalitions.
