Breaking news: The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Labour Party (LP), led by Julius Abure, has urged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the National Security Adviser (NSA) to launch an investigation into the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, activist Aisha Yesufu, Pastor Itua Ighodalo, and leaders of the pan-Yoruba group, Afenifere. The investigation concerns the alleged misappropriation of nearly ₦12 billion and $15 million in campaign donations. 9am news Nigeria reports that this allegation was raised by Labour Party National Publicity Secretary Abayomi Arabambi during a news conference in Abeokuta.

Arabambi accused Peter Obi, Yesufu, and Ighodalo of conspiring to embezzle campaign funds. He also pointed fingers at Afenifere leaders Pa Ayo Adebanjo, Akin Osuntokun, and Sola Ebiseni, claiming they retained over ₦600 million in personal bank accounts. Arabambi called Obi a “political merchant,” asserting that he orchestrated the misappropriation of funds under his leadership.

The Labour Party has described this as a breach of its core values, calling on the EFCC to thoroughly investigate the accounts linked to those involved. According to 9am news Nigeria, the party is committed to transparency and is demanding accountability from those accused.
