KWAM1 Apologises Over Abuja Airport Incident

Fuji star KWAM1 apologises over the Abuja airport incident, denies carrying alcohol, and explains his medical need for constant hydration.
KWAM1 Airport Incident

Fuji music legend, Alhaji King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as KWAM1, has tendered an unreserved apology following an incident at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, on Tuesday.

The apology comes barely 24 hours after the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) blacklisted the artiste from flying for six months over a confrontation on a ValueJet flight from Abuja to Lagos. The altercation reportedly involved airport security and airline crew.

The NCAA also suspended two ValueJet pilots for attempting to take off without proper clearance, describing it as a serious safety breach.

KWAM1, who had initially rejected the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria’s (FAAN) account of the event, issued a statement on Friday expressing regret. He denied claims that he carried alcohol in his flask, insisting it contained only water due to a medical condition.

“Unknown to many, I suffer from chronic dehydration and my doctor advised me to remain constantly hydrated. This is why I always carry a water flask with me,” he explained. “Contrary to the negative narrative, the flask contained only water, not alcohol, as wrongly alleged. I passed two security screenings with the flask empty and only filled it at the lounge before heading to the tarmac.”

“My unwavering patriotism and loyalty to Nigeria have never been in doubt. I would never knowingly act in a way that could tarnish the image I have built over five decades or diminish my country’s reputation,” KWAM1 said.

The 9am News report notes that the musician extended his apology to the Presidency, Ministry of Aviation, FAAN, NCAA, ValueJet, Nigerians, and his fans worldwide, reaffirming his commitment to upholding the values of Nigerian music and culture.
