Kayode Fayemi Denies Defection from APC

Former Ekiti governor Kayode Fayemi denies rumors of leaving the APC, reaffirming his commitment as a founding member of the party.

Former Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi, has debunked reports suggesting he has left the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Taking to his X (formerly Twitter) handle on Monday, Fayemi reiterated that he remains a card-carrying foundation member of the Party.

In his post, Fayemi addressed the speculation directly, stating:

“My attention has been drawn to a story circulating on several online platforms regarding my defection from the All Progressives Congress (APC). As I have had cause to state in the past, I am a card-carrying foundation member of the APC, and this position has not changed.”

Fayemi also acknowledged his ongoing advocacy for internal democracy and inclusivity within the APC but emphasized that it is not too late for the party to make necessary changes.

“While I have been at the vanguard of demand for greater internal democracy and inclusion in the ruling party, I believe it is still not late for our party to change course and move towards greater inclusion and internal democracy.”

Fayemi’s clarification comes on the same day former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, officially defected from the APC to the Social Democratic Party (SDP). El-Rufai cited disillusionment with the APC’s leadership style as his reason for leaving.

However, Fayemi has made it clear that he remains within the APC despite his push for reforms within the party.
