The Katsina State Government has officially approved a new minimum wage of ₦70,000 for its civil servants. The announcement was made by Governor Dikko Radda during a press briefing on Friday, bringing months of deliberation to a close.
The new wage adjustment is set to take effect from December 1, 2024, ensuring civil servants receive the increment in their salaries before the year ends.
This decision follows the ₦70,000 minimum wage directive approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu earlier in the year. The policy emerged after extensive negotiations between labour unions, the private sector, and the government to cushion workers from rising economic pressures.
Labour unions in Katsina have commended the move, describing it as a welcome relief for civil servants who have long advocated for better pay to cope with inflation and economic challenges.
The approval positions Katsina alongside other states that have met the December 1 deadline for implementing the national minimum wage. It also signals the state government’s commitment to improving the welfare of its workforce while fostering economic stability.
