Justice Obiora Egwuatu of the Federal High Court, Abuja, has withdrawn from the case involving Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, citing allegations of bias from Senate President Godswill Akpabio as the reason for his decision.

During Tuesday’s proceedings, Justice Egwuatu announced his recusal, stating that the case file would be returned to Chief Judge John Tsoho for reassignment. This move follows Akpabio’s reported lack of confidence in the court’s ability to handle the matter impartially.

Justice Egwuatu had previously issued an ex-parte order restraining the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions from conducting disciplinary proceedings against Akpoti-Uduaghan. The senator had petitioned the court to halt the investigation against her.

The case stems from a seat arrangement dispute between Akpoti-Uduaghan and Akpabio, which escalated into allegations of sexual harassment and abuse of office against the Senate President. Following the controversy, the Senate suspended Akpoti-Uduaghan for six months, citing misconduct.

With Justice Egwuatu stepping aside, the case now awaits reassignment, leaving the legal battle between senator natasha and the Senate leadership unresolved.
