The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has officially released the results of the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), with over 1.9 million candidates having sat for the nationwide exam.

The announcement was made on Friday by JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, during a press briefing in Abuja. Prof. Oloyede revealed that while the majority of results are now available, the board has withheld the results of 39,834 candidates over concerns related to examination malpractices.

According to Oloyede, 80 individuals are currently being interrogated over various forms of exam fraud, with Anambra State recording the highest number of suspects at 14.

“A total of 2,030,862 candidates registered for the 2025 UTME, conducted across 882 CBT centres, each monitored by 10 invigilators from various categories. In all, over 10,000 officials were involved in the smooth running of the examination,” Oloyede said.

He highlighted that the 2025 UTME will be remembered as “the most successful in recent times” despite the challenges.

Other key figures from the exercise include:

  • 1,957,000 candidates were successfully verified for the examination.
  • 71,705 candidates were absent.
  • 2,157 candidates’ fingerprints were rejected as invalid by the machines, raising concerns about registration infractions.
  • 467 underage candidates scored above the minimum cut-off mark and are now under review.
  • Of the 41,027 underage candidates registered, 40,260 sat for the exam and their results are being isolated for further analysis.

Prof. Oloyede assured that each malpractice and registration infraction case would be reviewed individually and handled on merit.

According to the 9am News report, the board is taking steps to ensure that only credible candidates benefit from this examination, reinforcing its zero-tolerance policy on cheating and malpractice.

With this release, attention now turns to the next phase of Nigeria’s tertiary admission process, as universities and other institutions begin their selection exercises.
