Nollywood actress and activist Iyabo Ojo has addressed the controversy surrounding her role in the investigation into the tragic death of late musician Mohbad, insisting she never directly accused anyone of being responsible.

In a statement seen by 9am News report, Iyabo Ojo explained that her comments during a viral live video were misunderstood and that she only used her platform to demand a thorough investigation into Mohbad’s sudden passing.

Recounting her actions, Iyabo detailed how she, through her NGO Pinkies Foundation wrote letters to the Lagos State Governor, Attorney General, Commissioner of Police, and other officials to push for an independent probe and coroner’s inquest.

“I never affirmed that Mohbad’s death was caused by any specific individual. Otherwise, I would not have pursued legal and investigative steps,” she clarified.

Facing Threats and Backlash

The actress revealed she has received multiple threats to her life, including a chilling letter delivered to her office just days before her daughter’s wedding in Tanzania. She also shared that she has seen disturbing images of coffins inscribed with her name and videos inciting violence against her.

Iyabo linked some of the harassment to her outspoken political views during the last elections, which she said have earned her enemies determined to ruin her reputation and livelihood.

“Over the years, people have consistently called for my death and destruction of my businesses, without any intervention from the authorities,” she wrote. She added that her office was recently destroyed by fire, compounding her emotional distress.

Commitment to Justice

Despite the threats, Iyabo Ojo pledged to continue honouring any police invitation or legal processes connected to the case, stressing that it is the responsibility of law enforcement to decide whom to question.

“As a private citizen, it is not within my powers to dictate how the police should carry out their investigations,” she said.

Iyabo reaffirmed that she is not deterred from her broader advocacy for social justice in Nigeria, regardless of the intimidation she faces.

Quoting scripture, she expressed her faith that “many are the afflictions of the righteous, but God will deliver me from them all.”

She concluded her message by thanking supporters, police authorities, and concerned Nigerians for standing by her during these trying times.
