The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially released the personal particulars of all candidates contesting in the 2025 Anambra State governorship election. This follows the conclusion of political party primaries and the timely submission of nomination forms by sixteen registered political parties.
In a 9am News report, the Commission disclosed that the nomination documents were submitted before the 6:00 p.m. deadline on Monday, May 12, 2025, via its designated online portal, which automatically closed at the stipulated time.
Documents on Public Display Across the State
The announcement was made in a statement signed by Sam Olumekun, INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee.
“In line with Section 29(3) of the Electoral Act 2022,” the statement said, “the Commission has displayed the Form EC9, including academic credentials and other relevant documents, for all candidates and their running mates. These are available at INEC’s state headquarters in Awka and the 21 local government offices across Anambra State.”
This exercise allows voters and political stakeholders to scrutinize the background information of the candidates vying for the top job in the state.
INEC also reminded aspirants that any participant in the primaries who has valid concerns about the veracity of a candidate’s credentials or other submitted information has the legal right to file a suit in the Federal High Court. This is in accordance with Section 29(5) of the Electoral Act 2022.
“The Commission appeals to members of the public to thoroughly scrutinise the published particulars,” the statement emphasized.
Final List of Candidates Due June 9
INEC confirmed that the final list of cleared candidates will be published on June 9, 2025, in line with Section 32(1) of the Electoral Act. This stipulates that the list must be made public at least 150 days before the election date.
The 2025 Anambra State governorship election is scheduled to take place on Saturday, November 8, 2025.
As the electoral process progresses, INEC reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, compliance with the law, and stakeholder engagement to ensure a free and credible election in the state.
