As part of its early preparations for the 2027 general elections, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has inaugurated the Election Project Plan Committee (EPPC) to oversee the strategic framework for the polls. The inaugural meeting of the committee took place during the week in Abuja, marking the first step toward a comprehensive electoral roadmap.
The EPPC is chaired by Prof. Rhoda H. Gumus, who emphasized the importance of early planning in strengthening Nigeria’s electoral system. She urged committee members to diligently execute their responsibilities to uphold electoral integrity and transparency. The committee’s mandate includes reviewing the Terms of Reference, developing a work plan, establishing sub-committees, designing an Elections Project Plan (EPP) Template, and setting submission timelines for planning documents.
The inauguration saw the presence of several National Commissioners, including Kenneth Ukeagu (Chair, Tenders Board), Dr. Baba Bila (Chair, EOLC), Sam Olumekun (Chair, EPMC), and Prof. Abdullahi Abdu Zuru (Chair, BEI). Their collective expertise is expected to guide the committee toward achieving a transparent and credible electoral process.
With the 2027 elections still years away, INEC’s proactive approach signals a commitment to addressing past electoral challenges and ensuring a seamless and efficient process. The committee’s work will be instrumental in setting the stage for a free, fair, and credible election.
