INEC Finalize Preparation Ahead Of Edo, Ondo Guber Elections

Breaking news from 9am news Nigeria: The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has provided crucial updates on the upcoming governorship elections in Edo and Ondo States. Ogasabi reports that during a press conference in Abuja, Mr. Sam Olumekun, the National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee (IVEC), highlighted the commission’s advanced preparations. Mrs. Mary Nkem, the Director of Voter Education and Publicity, was also present.

Role Of Media On Elections

Ogasabi emphasizes that the media plays a vital role in ensuring a transparent democratic process, especially with the elections drawing closer. INEC is committed to conducting these elections with the highest standards of integrity, leaving no stone unturned. The training of security personnel has already been completed, and the training of electoral officers is set to conclude by September 2024.

As voter education continues across all fronts, INEC is finalizing agreements with transportation unions and deploying election materials. Inec Most voter registration units in Edo and Ondo States have completed their voter registrations for the elections \, ensuring that the process runs smoothly. In addition, INEC plans to meet with stakeholders on September 10 to monitor voter accreditation in Edo State. The Peace Accord, led by General Abdulsalami Abubakar, will be signed on September 11.

Ogasabi warns that media outlets must avoid spreading false information, which could disrupt the elections, particularly in the digital age. INEC has taken proactive steps to combat misinformation and ensure transparency.

Moreover, Mr. Rotimi Oyekanmi, Chief Press Secretary to the INEC Chairman, advised the media to understand INEC’s election result management processes and adhere to the Nigerian media code of electoral coverage. He stressed the importance of fairness, objectivity, and the verification of facts before reporting.
